This counseling center is as much for family members as it is for addicts/alcoholics. Families are directly affected by addiction and alcoholism. They often develop poor coping skills to deal with the addict/alcoholic. As well, they often blame themselves for the disease in their loved one - sometimes they play a part in its continuation without meaning to, sometimes it serves a purpose for them and the family member becomes a hindrance in the recovery process in order to to protect themselves from unknown changes to come. For these reasons, addiction therapy should include family to better the chance of success.
Family members can also share their feelings and frustrations with others that have the same types of experiences. Knowing that you are not alone is cathartic on its own.
